History

Tissue engineering is among the most popular current research areas. It aims to minimize if not completely eliminate organ transplantation by utilizing interdisciplinary approaches to create organs or tissues to treat patients with tissue and/or organ damage/loss.

Simultaneously with the rise of research activities under "Tissue Engineering" in the early 1990s, Prof. Dr. Menemşe Gümüşderelioğlu initiated related research projects and established "Cell and Tissue Engineering Research Group" at Hacettepe University.

Following the advances in tissue engineering in the past thirty years, all current approaches have been adopted and applied in our laboratories. Our group carries out research activities at an international level in four different laboratories: ''Biomaterials Fabrication/Characterization Laboratory'', ''PCR Analysis Laboratory'', '' Electrospinning Process Laboratory '' and '' Cell and Tissue Culture Laboratory ''.
